The Light in Me

The Light in Me

This is the first song I ever wrote. It came at a time of inspiration while listening to a song called ‘Let it Be Me’ by Ray LaMontagne. No other song had moved me like this one. I remember thinking wow I’d like to reach someone just how the power of his words and music had reached me. I sat in my mate John’s spare room and penned the lyrics to the light in me. It took me about 20 minutes and I was lucky enough to have the song recorded by a very talented singer/songwriter named David Christopher, who is also a very dear friend of mine. The first recording happened in my mum’s garage over a cup of chai and a few afternoon beers. The song was officially launched in Newtown earlier this year and has featured on Canadian Independent film – Love Karma and VHS.

For me the song is about never having to say goodbye if you can truly acknowledge and see the best in someone dear to your heart. It’s also a song about trusting yourself and really can serve as a tribute to the people who brighten up our lives and help us see the light in ourselves…

Share it with someone you want to reach today…

Share your truth

Seeing your reflection everywhere
Your heart prints on every line of my face
Wake up feeling there’s been some mistake
You were here…we were one

I try to see the way inside of me
But the darkness is telling lies to my face

Hold on to the feeling of first sight
My eyes closed
I see you in my heart
I’ve always known that I must let you go
But your love kept me near

I try to see the way inside of me
But the darkness is telling lies to my face
There were times when life was nothing but disgrace
But it was you who saw the light in me

Seeing your reflection everywhere
Your likeness on every line of my face
Wake up feeling there’s been some mistake
You were here…now you’re gone

I try to see the way inside of me
But the truth is telling lies to my face
There were times when life was nothing but disgrace
But it was you who saw the light in me
Yes it was you who saw the light in me
And it was you who saw the light in me
Only you could see the light in me
